TMC to inaugurate second phase of Shiv Sena Chief Balasaheb Thackeray Chowpatty coming Sunday

Thane: The second phase of Shiv Sena Chief Balasaheb Thackeray Chowpatty at Gaymukh, developed by Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) and Thane Smart City Ltd., will be inaugurated on Sunday, September 1st. The project, located along Nagla Bunder Creek, was inspected on Friday by MLA Pratap Sarnaik and Municipal Commissioner Saurabh Rao.

The 800-meter-long chowpatty, developed under Smart City initiatives, features a range of amenities including a jetty, Ganesh Visarjan Ghat, Dashakriya Vidhi Ghat, creek-side pedestrian walkway, roadside walkway, Miyawaki Park, seating areas, an amphitheater, vehicle parking, toilets and CCTV surveillance.

During the inspection, MLA Pratap Sarnaik noted the need for a larger shed at the Dasakriya Vidhi Ghat, as requested by local residents. In response, Commissioner Rao directed officials to arrange for additional sheds and drinking water facilities.

The inauguration of this second phase will be conducted by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, marking a significant milestone in creating a new recreational space for the residents of Thane. Commissioner Rao highlighted that this chowpatty will become the largest in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. He also mentioned that the development of Nagla Bandar will continue, with the third phase.

In addition to the inspection of the chowpatty, MLA Pratap Sarnaik and Commissioner Saurabh Rao also visited the interfaith cemetery near Nagla Bunder and the site of various Samaj Bhawans in Kasar Vadavali. MLA Sarnaik expressed confidence that the delayed interfaith crematorium project, which aims to be a memory forest for all religions, will now proceed under the Chief Minister’s guidance.

Commissioner Rao emphasized that the cemetery’s design will cater to the needs of all religious communities, with strict adherence to guidelines regarding soil, sand, gravel, and other construction materials.

The inspection was attended by several key officials, including Additional Commissioners Sandeep Malvi and Prashant Rode, City Engineer Prashant Sonagra, Deputy Commissioners Dinesh Tayde and Manohar Bodke, Assistant Director Urban Planning Sangram Kanade, Suburban Engineer Vikas Dhole, Executive Engineer Mohan Kalal, Chief Environment Officer Manisha Pradhan, and others.
