In honor of the birth anniversary of former President of India, Bharat Ratna Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, celebrated as 'Vachan Prerna Divas' on the 15th of October every year, the Thane Municipal Corporation initiates 'Chala Vachuya' program in Thane Municipal Schools. This program, organized in collaboration with the 'Let's Read Foundation', aimed to foster a culture of reading among the youth by introducing separate bookshelves in each classroom, thereby enabling easy access to books for all students.

The inauguration of the 'Chala Vachuya' initiative is scheduled for Wednesday, October 18, at Municipal School No. 23 in Kisan Nagar. Subsequently, the program will be implemented in all municipal schools gradually throughout the year. Under this initiative, each classroom from fifth to tenth grade will have a designated book corner equipped with a collection of 30 books tailored to the respective age group and subjects. The students are encouraged to read all the books within a year, fostering a continuous love for reading.

Commissioner Abhijit Bangar emphasized the importance of making books easily accessible to students without any restrictions, thereby nurturing a habit of reading. As part of this endeavor, each student will be provided with a 'Passbook of Books' to maintain a record of their reading journey. Similar to a bank passbook recording financial transactions, this passbook will document the accumulated knowledge and personal reflections on the books read, emphasizing the development of critical thinking and writing skills.

Highlighting the significance of reading and writing in holistic development, Commissioner Abhijit Bangar highlighted the role of these activities in expanding intellectual horizons, fostering a deeper understanding of the world, and nurturing well-rounded personalities. This comprehensive initiative aims to instill a lifelong passion for both reading and writing among students, fostering intellectual curiosity and critical thinking.
