Rs. 24 lakh allotted for plantation work

The Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) has announced a restoration project for Kausa Garden in Mumbra, allocating Rs. 24 lakhs for the plantation of trees and plants. The initiative aims to revamp the garden, making it a pleasant and accessible space for visitors.

The restoration plan was approved following the gardens deteriorating condition. The absence of a gate and fencing had led to its misuse, attracting anti-social elements. Once a popular spot for residents to relax by the adjacent lake and enjoy activities like boating, the area has suffered due to pollution. The lake now emits a strong foul odor as garbage is frequently dumped into it, leading to the death of fish.

Dinesh Gawade, Garden Inspector from TMC, said, The project will begin with the desilting and cleaning of the lake. Following that, civil work, including re-fencing, installation of seating arrangements, and improved lighting, will be carried out. Once these phases are completed, the Garden Department will proceed with beautification efforts.

The announcement has brought joy to local residents. Hussain Khan, a resident of Shimla Park, expressed his delight, saying, I am happy that TMC is restoring Kausa Garden. It used to be a favourite spot for families, especially on weekends, and I hope it regains its charm soon.
