Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) officially initiated property tax payments for the financial year 2025-26 on April 1. In response, the corporation began sending short messages (SMS) to the registered mobile numbers of property taxpayers. On the very first day, around 1,570 proactive taxpayers paid a total of Rs 1.8 crore in property taxes.

The SMS sent to taxpayers includes a link to download and print payment receipts for the 2025-26 financial year, as well as an option to pay property tax online. In addition, taxpayers can pay their property taxes at the collection centres located at ward offices, open from Monday to Saturday, between 10:00 am and 5:00 pm.

To encourage timely payments, the municipal corporation is offering discounts for those who pay the full property tax amount early.

A 10% discount will be provided for payments made between April 1, 2025, and June 15, 2025. A 4% discount will be available for payments made from June 16, 2025, to June 30, 2025, while a 3% discount will apply for payments made between July 1, 2025, and July 31, 2025. Finally, a 2% discount will be offered for payments made between August 1, 2025, and August 31, 2025.

Additionally, the corporation has provided multiple payment methods, including online payment through the link propertytax.thanecity.gov.in and payment options via Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm, and the BHIM App.

“The process of distributing payment receipts for 2025-26 at the ward level has begun, though it will take some time. Taxpayers can also access their payment information on the Municipal Corporation's website or request it at any of the tax collection centres,” said G.G. Godepure, deputy commissioner (property tax department).
