Traffic advisory issued ahead of Maharashtra’s CM swearing-in ceremony at Azad Maidan

The swearing-in ceremony of Maharashtra’s new cabinet ministers is set to take place at Azad Maidan Ground on 5 December 2024. With Devendra Fadnavis being sworn in as Chief Minister. With a large turnout of attendees expected, the Mumbai Traffic Police has issued a comprehensive traffic advisory to minimise inconvenience and ensure smooth traffic flow. 

The advisory issued by Pradnya Jedge, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South), Traffic, Mumbai will be in effect on 5 December from 12 p.m. until the conclusion of the programme. Due to the lack of parking facilities at Azad Maidan, citizens are strongly encouraged to use public transportation, particularly local trains.

Road closures and traffic restrictions 

Mahapalika Marg

·        Prohibited Stretch: From CSMT Junction to Vasudev Balwant Phadke Chowk (Metro Junction) in both directions. 

·        Alternate Route: Traffic can take L.T. Marg to Chakala Junction, turn right onto D.N. Road, and proceed to CSMT Junction towards the desired destination. 

Mahatma Gandhi Marg

·        Prohibited Stretch: From Chafekar Bandhu Chowk (O.C.S. Junction) to Vasudev Balwant Phadke Chowk (Metro Junction) in both directions. 

Alternate Routes:

·        Option 1: Use L.T. Marg via Chakala Junction, turn right onto D.N. Road, and head to CSMT Junction. 

·        Option 2: Divert to Maharshi Karve Road towards the desired destination. 

 

Hajarimal Somani Marg

·        Prohibited Stretch: From Chafekar Bandhu Chowk (O.C.S. Junction) to CSMT Junction. 

·        Alternate Route: Traffic will be redirected via Chafekar Bandhu Chowk to Hutatma Chowk, Kala Ghoda, K. Dubhash Marg, and Shahid Bhagat Singh Marg. 

Meghdoot Bridge (Princess Street Bridge)

·        Southbound Restrictions: From N.S. Road and Coastal Road towards Shyamaldas Gandhi Junction. 

·        Alternate Route: Commuters should use N.S. Road. 

Rambhau Salgaonkar Road 

·        Temporary Adjustment: The stretch from Indu Clinic Junction (Sayyed Jamadar Chowk) to Volga Chowk will allow two-way vehicular traffic from 12:00 pm to 8:00 pm. 

Travel advisory for the public 

Given the anticipated crowd at Azad Maidan and surrounding areas, commuters are advised to plan their journeys in advance to avoid delays and disruptions. The Mumbai Traffic Police request the public to cooperate and make use of alternative routes and public transport.
