Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik announced that private passenger transport companies such as Ola, Uber, and Rapido will soon be brought under a unified regulatory framework. The Minister emphasized the need for a transparent complaint mechanism to address issues related to passenger safety, car pooling, licenses, and traffic concerns.

In a meeting held at the Ministry to discuss the matter, Additional Chief Secretary of Transport Sanjay Sethi, Transport Commissioner Vivek Bhimanwar, and Dr. Madhav Kusekar, Vice Chairman and Managing Director of the ST Corporation, were present, along with representatives from the passenger transport companies who participated via video conferencing.

Minister Sarnaik highlighted the central government's policy on private passenger transport providers and stressed that these companies need to operate under a single set of regulations to ensure passenger safety. He also emphasized the importance of creating employment opportunities, with a special focus on prioritizing women drivers for bikes and other vehicles. Furthermore, the Minister urged companies to adopt safety measures for their drivers and passengers.

Transport Commissioner Vivek Bhimanwar presented a comprehensive plan detailing the inclusion of private transport systems, vehicle maintenance, passenger safety, and other key aspects in the updated transport policy.

Additionally, Minister Sarnaik announced plans to develop 25-bed hospitals in each district and a 100-bed hospital in Borivali for State Transport (ST) employees, ensuring they receive medical care under the Mahatma Phule Jan Arogya Yojana, with surgery costs covered by the state government. These hospitals, currently under development on a Build-Operate-Transfer model, will provide cashless medical facilities for ST employees and their families, helping them avoid expensive private healthcare costs.
