In a proactive move to address the persistent traffic congestion at the Dahisar Check Naka, Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik convened a meeting with officials from various departments to review ongoing development projects, including metro construction, flyovers, cement concrete roads, and pedestrian bridges along highways.
Despite the recent waiver of toll fees for light four-wheelers, significant traffic jams continue to plague the area during peak morning and evening hours at Dahisar Check Naka. Sarnaik noted that the design of the toll lanes, implemented by contractors, has contributed to the slowdown of vehicle movement, resulting in long queues and frustration for drivers.
To alleviate the congestion, Sarnaik proposed a restructuring of the toll lanes: "Only three lanes should be reserved for heavy vehicles heading towards Mumbai, while two lanes should be designated for toll collection from heavy vehicles. The remaining lanes should be cleared for light vehicles to ensure smoother traffic flow and prevent jams," he stated. Additionally, he instructed that informational boards indicating the reserved lanes be installed 500 meters on both sides of the check post to facilitate orderly vehicle movement.
During the meeting, Sarnaik also inspected the construction of a flyover near the S.K. Stone Signal on Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Marg, which is nearing completion. He announced that the flyover is set to be inaugurated on February 16, promising to further ease traffic in the area.
Furthermore, the Minister directed officials from the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) to expedite the launch of the Dahisar-Bhayander Metro service by December 2025. He emphasized the importance of completing the planned pedestrian bridge on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad National Highway and the construction of cement concrete roads in the city before the onset of the monsoon season.
