Trees cut down for pipeline project in Uran Taluka raises environmental concerns

top-news

As part of a new pipeline project being laid along the Ransai Dam to Dighode-Chirle road, numerous trees are being cut down, raising concerns about the impact on the local environment.

The current pipeline work, supervised by the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC), is progressing rapidly, but it has led to the destruction of several trees that are essential to maintaining the area's greenery. These trees not only provide crucial shade for residents during the scorching summer months but also play a key role in combating pollution by producing oxygen.

Environmentalists and local residents have expressed their concerns, noting that the cutting of these trees could worsen the already deteriorating environmental conditions in the taluka, which is facing increasing industrialization. The rise in industrial activities is already contributing to a number of health problems in the area.

While the government has launched initiatives like social forestry and Majhi Vasundhara to protect the environment, the apparent neglect of the Forest Department in ensuring the preservation of trees during infrastructure projects is causing frustration. The residents of the area are calling for concrete measures to ensure that the road does not lose its natural shade and that the environmental balance is maintained.
