Turbhe Store residents hold signature campaign demanding immediate completion of flyover construction

Frustrated by the delay in the construction of the much-needed flyover at Turbhe Store on Thane-Belapur Road, residents took matters into their own hands, organizing a signature campaign to demand immediate action. The campaign, initiated by the Turbhe Store Sangharsh Samiti, took place on Indian Constitution Day and attracted significant attention from local residents and passersby alike.

The flyover project, originally slated to ease traffic congestion and improve safety, has been stalled despite the appointment of Mahaveer Roads and Infrastructure Pvt. Ltd. as the contractor two to three years ago. Local residents have voiced their concerns about the increasing number of accidents at the location, which has become one of the most dangerous stretches of road in the area.

In the past decade alone, 23 lives have been claimed, and over 50 people have sustained serious injuries due to accidents at the junction. The lack of a flyover has exacerbated the problem, with unregulated construction and frequent digging along the Thane-Belapur highway near Turbhe Station, contributing to the traffic chaos.

In response to the ongoing delays and the growing number of fatalities, residents sent a formal letter to Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde, urging swift action. The letter highlights the urgency of the situation, stressing the failure to initiate work on the flyover despite previous commitments.

The signature campaign was led by key members of the Turbhe Store Sangharsh Samiti, including Sanjay Kamble, Amar Ambhore, Shivaji Shinde, and Suraj Vakle, Nitin Kamble, Abhiman Jagtap, dnyandeep Nikalaje, Santosh Jadhav, Adv. Akshay More, rakesh koli, Ashok shirsat.
