UMC Sports Week inspires employee engagement in physical activities

To encourage the hidden sports talents of various employees and officials, the Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation (UMC), under the guidance of Former Administrator and Commissioner Jamir Legrekar, organized a week-long Sports Week from January 13 to January 17, 2025. The initiative aimed to promote sports culture, nurture talent, and encourage healthy competition among officers, employees, doctors, sports teachers, journalists, fire department staff, and more.
The sports week saw a wide array of exciting competitions, and winners were recognized for their outstanding performances across various sports disciplines. The Public Health Department’s cricket team, led by Vinod Kene, clinched the first-place position in the cricket competition. In the badminton competition, Kiran Bhillare, Chief Accounts Officer, emerged victorious. The chess competition was dominated by Sanjeev Borale and Harshada Bhoir from the Electricity Department secured the top spot. Additionally, Kiran Waghmare from the Electricity Department and Manda Agale from the Divyang Department took first place in the carrom competition.
The event was inaugurated and visited by New Commissioner and Administrator, Manisha Awhale, who extended her support for the continuation of such events. She encouraged all participants to embrace the spirit of sportsmanship and teamwork.
The sports competitions were held in the presence of several dignitaries, including Additional Commissioner Kishore Gavas, Deputy Commissioner Ajay Sable, Assistant Commissioner (Sports) Kiran Bhillare, and others, who also played a pivotal role in organizing the event. The program was further supported by officials like Sharad Deshmukh, Ankush Kadam, Vinod Kene, Achyut Sase, Vilas Nagdive, Manish Hiware, Deepak Dhangar, Hanumant Kharat, Raja Bulani (Legal Officer), Municipal Secretary Prajakta Kulkarni, Public Relations Officer Rajesh Ghanghaw, Chhaya Dangle, Tarun Shevkani, and Suresh Bombay.
