Ulhasnagar: In a bold move to crack down on persistent property tax defaulters, the Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation (UMC) has released the names of 100 major tax evaders who failed to respond to the recently concluded Abhay Yojana.
The aggressive stance comes as Rs 824.90 crore in arrears still remain to be recovered out of the total Rs 951 crore demand for the financial year 2024–25.
The UMC's jurisdiction currently includes 1,83,550 properties, comprising 1,36,543 residential and 47,007 commercial units.
“The move is aimed at encouraging defaulters to clear their dues, but some continued to ignore repeated opportunities. Hence, we have published a list of 100 property tax evaders,” said Commissioner Manisha Avhale.
“Despite the successful implementation of the Abhay Yojana in three phases from February 24 to March 22, where 25,510 property owners paid Rs 51.56 crore, the civic body is now targeting those who remained non-compliant,” she added.
The UMC’s total recovery in the current financial year has reached a record Rs 126.10 crore.
