With the announcement of the Model Code of Conduct for the upcoming Assembly Elections 2024 on October 15, city chowks’ have finally breathed a sigh of relief. Following this declaration, both municipal authorities and political parties have taken swift action to remove unauthorized banners from various streets and public spaces in Navi Mumbai.
In the lead-up to the elections, numerous candidates had organized marches and events, resulting in the proliferation of unauthorized banners across the city. This year's celebrations of Ganeshotsav and Navratri saw workers of various candidates putting up these banners in many locations.
Typically, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) publishes department-wise complaint numbers to address such unauthorized installations each year. However, the removal of political banners has often been hampered by the reluctance of municipal employees to act against political leaders. Consequently, these illegal banners remained in place, causing frustration among residents.
