Overflowing garbage bins in Sectors 28 and 29 of Vashi has raised health concerns among residents, who are blaming the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) for negligence. The unattended waste has become a source of foul odours and a potential health hazard, raising fears of disease outbreaks in the area.
Residents have turned to social media to voice their frustrations. Madhu, a local resident, posted on X and stated, "NMMC, what kind of cleanliness is this? People of Sector 28 and 29, Vashi, are suffering due to the filthy smell of filled dustbins. When I inquired, I was told everyone is busy with election duty. Should we wait for diseases to spread before action is taken?"
Accompanying her post was a photograph depicting the grim state of sanitation in the area, with overflowing bins and waste spilling onto the streets.
Another resident, Manasi Kaninde, expressed her discontent and said, "Green garbage bins, meant for secure waste disposal, are overflowing with decomposing trash, including tree leaves and plastic bags. Additional sacks of waste are dumped around the bins, creating an eyesore and a health risk. The roadside trash is attracting pests and emitting an unbearable stench”.
Residents who contacted NMMC officials were informed that many sanitation workers had been deployed for election-related duties, leading to delays in waste collection.
The combination of unattended garbage and the pungent odour has left locals worried about the risk of vector-borne diseases like dengue and malaria. Many are calling for immediate action to avert a potential public health crisis.
