In an extraordinary feat of endurance and determination, 11-year-old Swaraj Patil from Uran, has set a new record by swimming the challenging 12-km stretch from Mora Jetty to the Gateway of India. His achievement has been officially recognized by the Maharashtra State Amateur Aquatic Association (MSAAA).

Swaraj, a resident of Bazarpur, achieved the feat on March 5. Braving strong waves, fierce winds, unpredictable water currents, darkness, and the presence of large ships, he completed the journey in an impressive 4 hours and 25 minutes.

Swaraj's passion for swimming was inspired by his mother, Sonali Santosh Patil, who accomplished a similar feat 25 years ago. Swaraj was determined to follow his mother’s footsteps and has been training since he was young.

A sixth-grade student at the St. Mary's Convent School in Uran, Swaraj has been balancing his love for swimming along with his educational commitments. “I have always given equal importance to education and my passion for swimming”, says the young champion.

For Swaraj’s mother, it was an emotional moment. “It is a big day for me as a mother”, said Sonali, her voice filled with pride. “The entire family is proud of Swaraj. Our strong family legacy in swimming has motivated him to pursue his dreams and aim for even greater milestones in the future”.

The MSAAA has officially acknowledged Swaraj’s record-breaking swim. Swaraj was presented with a certificate of appreciation and a medal by the association.
