Uran constituency set for three-way clash as BJP, Shiv Sena and PWP face off

top-news

The Uran Assembly Constituency is set for an intense electoral battle with a three-way fight involving BJP, Shiv Sena (Uddhav Thackeray faction), and the Peasants and Workers Party of India (PWP), similar to the fierce 2019 contest. With a total of 3,42,101 voters—1,71,526 male, 1,70,563 female, and 12 transgender voters, this election sees an increase of 70,000 voters since the last assembly polls.

In the 2019 elections, Mahesh Baldi, an independent backed by BJP, led with 74,549 votes, narrowly defeating Shiv Sena’s Manohar Bhoir with 68,839 votes, while PWP’s Vivek Patil garnered 61,606 votes. However, since then, the political landscape has shifted, with the Shiv Sena split and new alliances forming under the Maha Vikas Aghadi, uniting Shiv Sena (Uddhav faction), Congress, and other parties.

With 14 candidates in the fray, campaigning has intensified, especially on social media. Pritam Mhatre is representing the PWP, Manohar Bhoir is the Shiv Sena (Uddhav faction) candidate, and Mahesh Baldi stands for BJP. Women's and youth votes are expected to play a decisive role, with candidates strategically focusing on these demographics.

A total of 355 polling stations will be set up across the constituency, supported by 1,893 personnel to facilitate voting on November 20, 2024. Results will be announced on November 23, 2024. The Maha Vikas Aghadi’s internal competition is expected to make this election particularly contentious, with each candidate vying to consolidate their base and capture the critical women’s vote.
