The Vashi Cultural Association (VCA) has returned to its roots, proudly showcasing the grand Durgotsav at ICL Ground, Sector 15, Vashi, from October 8 to 13. Celebrating its 20th year of Durga Puja, VCA, a renowned socio-cultural association, has brought back the open-air festivities that began its journey in 2005, featuring traditional folk arts and crafts.

The Durgotsav will kick off with the much-anticipated Anandamela, a homemade food festival, on the evening of October 6 at 7:30 PM, coinciding with the arrival of the Devi Durga idol to the beautifully crafted pandal.

This year’s pandal, a stunning replica of a temple, will be the centerpiece of the event, adorned with theme paintings inspired by the Ramayana, meticulously crafted on village mats made of straw. Artisans from West Bengal have already arrived to execute these intricate handicrafts, working tirelessly to ensure the venue's grandeur.

Elaborate puja rituals will be conducted according to Hindu scriptures, following the schedule outlined in the Bengali Panchanga. A significant highlight will be the auspicious Sandhi Puja, marking the transition from Ashtami to Navami, set to take place from 6:24 AM to 7:21 AM.

Visitors can look forward to a magnificent pandal, artistic idols, traditional Daak beats, divine puja rituals, Pushpanjali, Dhunuchi Nach, a variety of food stalls, and an array of entertainment options that will make this Durgotsav an unforgettable experience.

The evening programs promise star-studded performances, featuring talented Bengali artists from Kolkata. Film actor and stage artist Sri Kharaj Mukherjee will grace the event on October 9, while playback singer Ms. Mekhla Dasgupta is set to enthrall the audience with popular hits on October 11. Additionally, on October 12, a team of senior musicians and singers from the Bollywood industry will pay tribute to the legendary RD Burman.

Local talents will also shine throughout the festivities, offering entertainment through songs, flute performances, beat boxing, group Dhunuchi dance, and Shankhya Dhawani competitions, ensuring that all visitors are engaged and entertained.

“After four years of pandemic-induced restrictions, Navi Mumbai is set to embrace the vibrant Durga Puja festivities once again, with the VCA inviting all citizens to join in the celebrations. The return of this open-air culture promises a vibrant and extravagant experience that the community has eagerly awaited”, informed the organisers.
