The water body at Vashi’s Juhu Chowpatty, which has long served as a recreational area for morning and evening walkers, has recently been plagued by an excessive growth of algae. This has caused distress among citizens who frequent the area, as the foul smell from the algae has made the environment unpleasant.

For years, the water body at the Juhu Chowpatty have been neglected, with little to no cleaning or maintenance. The presence of a mangrove forest in the area has further complicated the task of removing accumulated silt. Initially created to manage sewage drainage during the monsoon, the water body have now become clogged with silt, garbage, and algae.

The Juhu Chowpatty, in particular, has attracted more attention due to its proximity to the area's popular jogging track. Citizens who use the track for their daily walks have voiced their concerns about the increasingly foul smell emanating from the water. A thick layer of green algae has formed on the surface, and discarded waste such as plastic bottles and organic debris has accumulated, muddying the water and intensifying the stench.

Vikram Shinde, former corporator, expressed his frustration, stating, "Even after writing to the Municipal Administration, they have ignored our concerns. The administration should take immediate action to clean the lake because the stench is unbearable, and it is compromising the health of citizens who come here to walk and stay healthy."

In response, Sagar More, Assistant Commissioner and Ward Officer, Vashi, stated that the algae accumulation in the water body is primarily due to the influx of tidal water. He assured that instructions would be given to the concerned authorities to clean the algae and improve the condition of the lake.
