Ulhasnagar: Vikas Dhakne, widely recognized as the 'Action Man' of infrastructure, has officially taken charge as the Commissioner of Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation. A 2008 batch civil services officer, Dhakne is renowned for his exceptional administrative capabilities and extensive experience in Maharashtra's governance landscape.
Educationally, Dhakne holds an M.A. in Economics, a B.Sc. in Agriculture, and an L.L.B., showcasing his diverse academic background. His career commenced with the Indian Railway Service, where he distinguished himself in roles such as Assistant and Divisional Safety Commissioner across the Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Pune, and Solapur Railway Divisions. His tenure in the railways was marked by significant administrative contributions and the successful completion of numerous projects.
Before his current role, Dhakne served as the Additional Commissioner in both Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation and Pune Municipal Corporation. During his time at Pimpri Chinchwad, the corporation received over 15 awards at state and national levels, a testament to his effective leadership. In Pune, his tenure saw the resolution of critical infrastructure issues, including the widening of major roads and the implementation of a special plan for 15 model roads. His work on transforming educational institutions, improving healthcare facilities, and securing CSR funds for city projects further cemented his reputation as a dedicated and action-oriented leader.
Dhakne's leadership style, characterized by his calm demeanor and responsiveness to public concerns, has made him a popular figure among citizens. His transfer from Pune Municipal Corporation ahead of the Lok Sabha elections even sparked public protests, underscoring his impact on the community.
In addition to his municipal roles, Dhakne has served as Special Executive Officer to the Industries Minister of Maharashtra and as a private secretary in the central government. His contributions have been recognized with honors from the Union Ministry in 2014, 2018, and 2019. In 2021, he was awarded the prestigious 'Rajiv Gandhi Administrative Dynamics Award' by the Government of Maharashtra. He has also earned distinctions such as Parade Commander in the Republic Day Parade and the title of 'Best Probationary Officer' in his batch.
Beyond his professional achievements, Dhakne has a passion for reading, trekking, and theater direction, having directed five plays and won a gold medal in university-level athletics.
