Water wastage concerns mount as thousands of litres squandered at CIDCO Park amid water scarcity

While New Panvel city grapples with a severe shortage of water, the negligence of CIDCO water supply officials has led to the wastage of thousands of litres of precious drinking water at CIDCO Park in New Panvel, Sector 13, causing much distress to the residents.

Despite the fact that there is no real need for water at CIDCO Park during the monsoon season, CIDCO has not taken the initiative to close the taps in the park. As a result, residents are bearing the brunt of water shortages, while witnessing an alarming misuse of water taps in the park. To exacerbate the situation, a water tap in the park has remained broken for the past two months, leading to a substantial amount of water wastage.

Over the past few years, residents of Sector 13 A have faced a severe shortage of drinking water. In the same area, there are two tap connections within the CIDCO park, with one connection extending outside the park. It has come to light that some traders at Janata Market and a few local residents are using the drinking water from this park for washing four-wheelers, resulting in the squandering of thousands of litres of drinking water every day. The women in the area have voiced their frustration with CIDCO water supply officials and political leaders for this dire state of affairs.

In the midst of this crisis, CIDCO officials have overlooked the planning required to ensure the taps within the CIDCO park distribute water with appropriate pressure. As a consequence, a significant portion of the squatter houses in the area remains without running water. Remarkably, water bills continue to accumulate, causing further discontent among the residents.

While CIDCO has provided a single tap connection in the park, residents question why two taps have been connected in the park. They contend that CIDCO officials are responsible for this situation and claim that these additional tap connections are being distributed in response to political pressure and financial support.

In the New Panvel CIDCO Colony, water is released to the taps just once a day during the monsoon season. At low pressure, water doesn't even reach most citizens' taps, and this results in a scarcity of water for everyday use. Meanwhile, the wastage of thousands of litres of drinking water occurs as four-wheeler vehicles are washed using the precious water from Sector 13 park.

When women approach CIDCO water supply officials with questions about drinking water, these officials seem to focus solely on releasing water to the taps, without addressing the underlying issues. The women in the area are demanding that the CIDCO water supply department connect the tap water supply in the park to the main line of Baityachali to mitigate this pressing water wastage issue.
