Youngest ever ICC Chair Jay Shah vows for a new era for global cricket

The newly elected Chair of the International Cricket Council (ICC), Jay Shah (India) who took over from the charge from Greg Barclay promised to take the Cricket to ‘Unprecedented Heights’ on his first visit to the game's global governing body Headquarters, based in Dubai, UAE on Thursday.

Elected unopposed in August early this year, the 36-year-old Shah, former Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) became the youngest and fifth Indian to take over as the ICC Chair on 1st December, 2024.

During the fruitful visit to the ICC Headquarters, Shah met with Board Directors where he discussed his vision and the future of the sport. There was also a meet and greet opportunity with ICC staff, along with the ICC’s Media Rights partners at the annual broadcast workshop which was being hosted in Dubai, UAE. These interactions provided an opportunity to discuss the future of cricket, explore innovative strategies, and strengthen partnerships.

ICC Chair Jay Shah on the occasion said, “This productive and inspiring visit provided an invaluable opportunity to connect with my colleagues on the ICC Board, where we discussed the initial roadmap and strategies to shape the future of this incredible sport. The hard work to elevate cricket to unprecedented heights starts now, and I am confident that together, we will deliver on this vision”.

Expressing his delight on meeting the dedicated ICC team that has been working tirelessly behind the scenes to propel cricket forward with their passion and shared belief on the immense potential of the game Shah added “While I am encouraged by what I have seen, I recognise that this is just the beginning”

ICC Deputy Chair, Imran Khwaja while welcoming Jay Shah in his new role shared the cricket governing body’s enthusiasm during the course of his tenure.

“Jay Shah’s ambition and experience will be instrumental in guiding the ICC and the sport into the future. It has been a very productive visit for everyone, and we look forward to working alongside him, the Members and ICC team in achieving success,” he added.
