Kalyan-Dombivli: Water leakage from major Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) pipelines at several locations in Dombivli has raised concerns over wastage amid scheduled water cuts lasting 24 to 36 hours every Friday.
Raju Nalawade has demanded permanent repairs, alleging that recurring leaks are wasting large quantities of water even as residents face shortages.
According to Nalawade, leakage has persisted for several days from a major pipeline near Dombivli MIDC’s residential service road and outside Nahar Multispeciality Hospital, opposite Moti Mithaiwale, on Kalyan-Shil Road. He also flagged leakage from a pipeline valve outside the Maruti Suzuki Commercial showroom at Dawdi Naka.
Nalawade alleged that although complaints to the MIDC administration prompt temporary repairs, the leakage resumes at the same locations within days. During an inspection, he noticed a hole in a pipeline covered with a cap or plug. Water reportedly sprays out, particularly in the early morning, raising questions about the effectiveness of the repairs and the cause of the recurring problem.
He claimed that three to four locations were affected and called for a detailed inquiry into the leaks and any possible unauthorised interference with the water supply network. He also demanded permanent repairs and strict action against those found responsible.
With MIDC enforcing weekly supply cuts amid water scarcity, Nalawade said authorities must take effective steps to prevent wastage and ensure reliable repairs.
He also questioned how water tankers remain widely available during supply shutdowns and urged the administration to investigate their sources of water.
Residents have called for prompt intervention to prevent further wastage while the area continues to face water shortages.
