Mumbai: BJP leader and former MP Kirit Somaiya has sought a Look Out Circular (LOC) against actor Imran Khan, requesting authorities to prevent him from leaving India until an inquiry into his complaint and a police investigation are completed.
In a letter dated October 13 to Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan, Somaiya urged the Ministry of Home Affairs to restrict the actor’s overseas travel under the Immigration and Foreigners Act, 2025. He also asked the Bureau of Immigration to issue an LOC and alert the police if Khan attempts to travel abroad.
The request follows a protest held at August Kranti Maidan in Mumbai on October 10, where demonstrators demanded the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The demonstration was organised by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP).
Somaiya alleged that the gathering took place without the required permission and claimed Khan attended the demonstration before being detained by Mumbai Police. According to his letter, Gamdevi Police Station registered an FIR, numbered 813 of 2026, in connection with the incident, naming the actor in the case. Somaiya said he had not received a copy of the FIR.
The BJP leader also claimed that Khan is a US citizen and reportedly holds an Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) card. He urged authorities to examine whether the actor’s participation in the protest warrants action under Section 7D of the Citizenship Act, 1955, and the Immigration and Foreigners Act, 2025.
Somaiya shared the letter on X and sought a written update on the action taken. The allegations and any potential legal violations have not been established by the complaint.
