New Delhi: The Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) has warned the public against individuals allegedly collecting money in its name, claiming the funds would provide legal assistance to people detained during protests.

In a statement posted on X on October 12, the outfit clarified that those seeking money were not affiliated with the party and urged people not to make payments without verification.

“It has come to our attention that certain individuals are seeking money in CJP’s name, claiming to provide legal assistance to detainees,” the party said, advising the public to verify such claims through its official channels.

The warning came amid continuing protests by CJP members demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

Earlier on Monday, October 12,  CJP co-conveners Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka, along with Ajinkya Shinde and other protesters, attempted to stage a demonstration at Jantar Mantar in Delhi. They were detained by Delhi Police.

CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke claimed that the group had entered the area early in the morning carrying the national flag before being detained. Videos showing the leaders attempting to enter the protest site also circulated online.

Ranka later reiterated that the outfit would continue its agitation until Kumar resigned. In a video shared on the party’s social media account, he said the protesters would not back down despite Jantar Mantar having been denotified by Delhi Police as a designated protest site.

The alleged unauthorised fundraising has prompted the party to urge supporters and members of the public to exercise caution. The CJP has not identified the individuals allegedly collecting money, and the claims have not been independently verified.
