Mumbai: Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) has reached more than 6.19 lakh students across 2,914 schools and junior colleges through a statewide campaign promoting electrical safety, energy conservation and green energy.
Conducted from September 15 to 30, the initiative saw MSEDCL engineers interact directly with students through presentations, demonstrations, posters and information booklets. The campaign aimed to raise awareness about electrical hazards, explain how electricity is generated and supplied, and highlight the importance of renewable energy in achieving the vision of ‘Viksit Bharat 2047’.
The initiative was organised under the guidance of Lokesh Chandra, Additional Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister and MSEDCL chairman and managing director, with the support of Rajendra Pawar, director (human resources), and executive director Paresh Bhagwat.
The sessions used illustrations and practical examples to explain electrical safety and energy-saving practices. Several schools also held question-and-answer sessions and colouring competitions based on electrical safety.
A notable initiative was conducted at The Poona School and Home for the Blind in Pune, where engineers used sound, touch and smell to demonstrate how visually impaired students could recognise potential electrical hazards. Pawar also conducted an awareness session for students in Jalgaon.
The Konkan regional division recorded the highest outreach, covering 946 schools and reaching 2.14 lakh students. Nagpur followed with 899 schools and 1.71 lakh students, while Pune covered 827 schools and reached 1.69 lakh students. The Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar division reached 65,000 students across 242 schools.
