top-news

Kalyan: The Maharashtra government has approved the proposed Metro Line 12A extension and an integrated infrastructure project featuring elevated roads and flyovers to ease congestion along the Kalyan-Shilphata corridor. The approval follows sustained efforts by MP Dr Shrikant Shinde and is expected to improve connectivity between Kalyan, Dombivli, Shilphata, Mahape and Taloja.

The proposed 18.4-km metro extension, including the depot connection, will run from Manpada to Kalyan Phata and onward to Khutari village in Taloja. It will have 12 elevated stations.

The integrated project envisages a two-lane elevated road between Kalyan Phata and Manpada and a six-lane elevated road between Kalyan Phata and Khutari village. The Kalyan Phata-Rajnoli stretch is proposed to be developed as a double-decker corridor, with a connection to the Mahape flyover.

The 12 proposed stations are Manpada, Katai Naka, Growth Centre, Desai Naka, Padle village, Kalyan Phata, Gotheghar village, Dahisar Mori, Dahisar village, Kiravali village, Rohinjan and Khutari village.

Metro Line 12A is also expected to connect with Metro Lines 12 and 5 and other major transport projects, improving access between residential and industrial areas.

Funding and implementation

The proposed funding arrangement includes participation by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), interest-free subordinate loans from the state government and financing from financial institutions. Land acquisition, rehabilitation and timely fund availability will be key to implementation.

Although the state has approved the project, the source information does not specify a construction start date or completion deadline. Residents will be watching for details on the execution schedule.

Shinde thanked Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Minister and Urban Development Minister Eknath Shinde for approving the project.
