Nerul: A 17-year-old boy from Nerul has been booked for allegedly sexually assaulting a minor girl from Kharghar, recording private videos of her and subsequently sending them to her relatives to pressure her into marrying him. He also threatened to circulate the videos on social media if she refused to marry him.

The Nerul police have initiated an investigation after a case was registered against the minor under various provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the Information Technology Act.

According to the police, the boy and the girl became acquainted in June 2025 and subsequently developed a relationship. During this period, the accused allegedly sexually assaulted the girl at a house near Hanuman Temple in the Shiravane area of Sector 2, Nerul. He also allegedly recorded private videos of the victim on his mobile phone.

The relationship later turned sour following a dispute between the two, and the matter reportedly reached the police. Subsequently, the accused allegedly sent the private videos to the girl's relatives and threatened to upload them on social media if she did not agree to marry him.

Disturbed by the alleged threats and the circulation of her private videos, the girl approached the Kharghar police and lodged a complaint against the boy.

Based on her complaint, the Kharghar police registered a case under Section 64(2)(i) of the BNS, Sections 4, 6, 8, 12 and 15 of the POCSO Act, and Sections 66(E) and 66(B) of the Information Technology Act.

The case was subsequently transferred to the Nerul police for further investigation. The Nerul police have begun investigating the allegations and are proceeding with the legal process against the 17-year-old accused.
