Ulhasnagar: Air pollution concerns are mounting in Ulhasnagar after private monitoring data showed the Air Quality Index (AQI) remaining in the poor range for four consecutive weeks in October, reaching 207 on October 24. The readings have renewed calls for official monitoring and stronger measures to control dust and particulate pollution.
Data from private air monitoring stations and researchers indicate that the city’s AQI fluctuated between 125 and 207 during the four-week period. On October 24, PM2.5 levels were recorded at 96, while PM10 stood at 120, pointing to elevated concentrations of fine and coarse particulate matter.
However, the figures have not been independently verified by official monitoring authorities, and confirmation is needed to establish the precise severity and classification of Ulhasnagar’s air quality.
Heavy traffic, construction activity and dust from residential areas have been identified as possible contributors to the elevated readings. Prolonged exposure to particulate pollution can pose health risks, particularly for children, older people and those with respiratory conditions.
Residents and environmental advocates are now urging the Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation and the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board to conduct joint monitoring and take prompt corrective action.
Their demands include regular water sprinkling on dusty roads, stricter enforcement of dust-control norms at construction sites and closer surveillance of pollution hotspots.
With private monitoring indicating persistently elevated pollution levels, residents are seeking reliable official data and sustained action to prevent further deterioration in the city’s air quality.
