Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Airport has marked a milestone in Indian aviation by hosting what officials described as the country’s first-ever training programme focused on Automatic Dependent Surveillance–Broadcast (ADS-B) technology.
The 19-day programme began on September 28 and is scheduled to continue until October 16, bringing together 14 aviation professionals from different parts of India. The training is aimed at building specialised expertise in advanced communication, navigation and surveillance (CNS) systems as the country’s aviation sector expands and adopts newer technologies.
Airport director S B Yewale said ADS-B is a next-generation surveillance technology through which aircraft automatically transmit information including their precise position, altitude, speed and identification. The technology can improve situational awareness for air traffic management, support safer and more efficient operations and reduce reliance on conventional radar-based surveillance.
The training programme covers ADS-B system architecture, installation, maintenance and integration with existing air traffic management systems. Participants are undergoing both classroom sessions and hands-on operational training as part of the programme.
Officials said the initiative is intended to strengthen the availability of skilled personnel capable of handling advanced CNS infrastructure. Yewale said such capacity-building programmes are increasingly important as India’s aviation industry grows and undergoes technological upgrades.
The participation of aviation professionals from across the country highlights the wider relevance of the programme and provides a platform for participants to exchange technical knowledge and operational experience.
The latest update is that the training programme, which commenced on September 28, is currently scheduled to run through October 16, with 14 professionals participating in the specialised ADS-B training at Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Airport.
