Mumbai: Seven people were killed, and several others feared trapped after a landslide struck Gaushiya Chawl in Chirag Nagar, Kurla West, during the early hours of August 12. The incident occurred around 3.48 am near Rathod Medical, causing a portion of the structure to collapse onto two to three nearby rooms.

The Mumbai Fire Brigade declared the incident a Level-II emergency at 4.32 am. Rescue operations were immediately launched by the Fire Brigade, BMC teams and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) personnel. Around 50 civic workers are engaged in the search operation using specialised rescue equipment.

According to officials, seven people have been confirmed dead, while seven others were injured and shifted to Kurla Bhabha Hospital and Rajawadi Hospital. The deceased include children and young adults, with the victims identified as Mohamad Samir Ansari (14), Sahil Husen Abdul Kazi (19), Aban Arif Shaikh (2.5), Manat Arif Shaikh (4), Marjina Arif Shaikh (27) and Viket Ramesh Yadav (27). One victim is yet to be identified.

The injured include Sohel Ansari, Mohamad Ansari, Naimuddhin Eqbal Khan, Sajid Ansari, Farana Dilber Khan, Dilber Amnulla Khan and Shamin Muslim Khan. Doctors said those admitted were stable.

Mumbai Mayor Ritu Tawde and Additional Municipal Commissioner Dr Avinash Dhakne visited the site to review rescue efforts. The Fire Brigade deployed multiple vehicles, including fire engines, rescue vehicles and water tankers, as teams continued searching for survivors trapped beneath the debris.
