Navi Mumbai: The sticks are clicking, the beats are getting faster, and the final steps are being polished. With Navratri just days away, Dandiya and Garba classes across Navi Mumbai are witnessing a festive surge as enthusiasts of all ages rehearse for nine nights of music, dance and celebration.

In Kharghar, the Raas group, led by dancers and trainers Radha Mehta and Sanket Vora, has been conducting sessions at Dance2Fit Studio for the past month. More than 200 men, women and children are attending morning and evening batches, while a 10pm to 11pm session has been added for working professionals.

“Professionals are more active this year. Many come straight from work to attend the classes,” said Mehta and Vora, who are also conducting sessions at housing societies across Kharghar.

Participants are being trained in energetic routines including Kanudo, Dodhiya, Dakla Dhurandhar, Saat Taali, Timli and Galgoto. The group will showcase its preparations at a grand Dandiya night at Dance2Fit Studio on October 11.

At Gujarat Bhavan in Vashi, choreographer and Dandiya trainer Truptee Thakkar has been holding daily workshops for over two weeks, attracting more than 50 participants aged 10 to 65.

“Dandiya is Indian aerobics. It combines natural body movement with an enjoyable way to stay fit and burn calories,” Thakkar said.

From basic Do Taali and Teen Taali to Khelaiya, Dodhiyu, Dakla and Baroda-style routines, participants are working on both technique and stamina.

Meanwhile, Lohana Samaj in Koparkhairane is preparing for its traditional Dandiya and Garba celebrations on Ashtami and Navami, adding to the city’s growing festive rhythm.
