Seawoods: The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) is implementing the ‘Seva Sankalp Abhiyan’ through various initiatives under the guidance of Navi Mumbai Mayor Sujata Patil and NMMC Commissioner Dr Kailas Shinde. As part of the ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ campaign, the Solid Waste Management Department is conducting extensive public awareness activities.

With the implementation of the new Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026, waste segregation has expanded from the earlier two categories, wet and dry waste, to four categories, including domestic hazardous waste and sanitary waste. Citizens are being educated about the need to segregate waste into these four categories through various awareness programmes.

As part of this effort, an innovative flash mob was organised at Nexus Grand Central Mall in Seawoods, considering the large number of families visiting malls for shopping during the evenings. Amid the usual bustle, lively music suddenly filled the mall, drawing shoppers towards the central area.

More than 80 young performers from Aarambh Creations began dancing while holding placards carrying cleanliness messages. Citizens gathered around the performers, while people on different floors watched the performance from the railings. Youngsters also recorded the event on their mobile phones for social media reels.

The performers used popular songs as well as specially created songs promoting cleanliness and proper waste segregation. Three waste mascots, Olu, Suku and Ghatu, also attracted considerable attention, with children eagerly posing for photographs and shaking hands with them.

Through the musical performance, the campaign conveyed the importance of cleanliness and, particularly, segregating waste into four categories at the point where it is generated, beginning at home.
