93 teams compete in NMMC district-level table tennis tournament

Vashi: The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation’s (NMMC) district-level school table tennis tournament witnessed enthusiastic participation, with 93 teams competing in the under-14, under-17 and under-19 categories at Fr Agnel Sports Centre, Vashi.
Organised by the NMMC Sports and Cultural Department under the Directorate of Sports and Youth Services, Maharashtra, the tournament featured 61 boys’ teams and 32 girls’ teams from schools and junior colleges across Navi Mumbai.
In the boys’ section, Delhi Public School, Nerul, won the under-14 category, defeating New Horizon Scholars School, Airoli, 3-1 in the final. Fr Agnel School, Vashi, clinched the under-17 title with a 3-0 win over Reliance Foundation School, Koparkhairane.
Podar CBSE School, Nerul, won the under-19 boys’ title, defeating Dr DY Patil International School, Nerul, 3-0.
Among the girls, Fr Agnel School, Vashi, secured the under-14 and under-19 titles. It defeated Amity International School, CBD Belapur, 3-0 in the under-14 final and Ryan International School, Sanpada, 3-0 in the under-19 final. Amity International School won the under-17 girls’ title after a 3-2 victory over New Horizon Public School, Airoli.
Sports and Cultural Committee chairman Girish Mhatre said the growing participation of schools reflected increasing interest in table tennis and the emergence of promising players in Navi Mumbai.
The tournament was conducted under the guidance of NMMC Commissioner Kailas Shinde.
