Panvel: Addiction is a serious social problem that affects not only an individual’s health but also impacts families and society at large. The youth are the backbone of the nation and must stay away from drugs, alcohol, tobacco and other harmful substances, said social worker and BJP activist Prabhakar Joshi while addressing students at Kharghar.

An awareness programme was organised by the National Service Scheme (NSS) unit of Ramsheth Thakur College of Commerce and Science under the ‘Drug-free Youth – Developed India Resolution Campaign’. Joshi was invited as the chief guest and guided students on the importance of leading a healthy and responsible life.

Speaking on the occasion, Joshi said, “The ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan’, launched with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision, is an important initiative towards creating an addiction-free society.”

He added, “The issue cannot be resolved only through legal measures or government programmes. Families, educational institutions, social organisations and citizens must collectively work towards spreading awareness among youngsters about the harmful effects of addiction.”

The campaign aimed to educate students about the physical, mental and social consequences of substance abuse while encouraging them to adopt a positive lifestyle. The NSS unit conveyed the message, “Say no to drugs, choose health and build a strong mind.”

Joshi urged students to focus on education, sports, values and nation-building activities. He also appealed to them to spread awareness about de-addiction among their peers and contribute towards building a healthier society.
