Ulwe: Air India Group and IndiGo are set to begin phased relocations of select domestic and international flights from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) to Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA). The strategic shift supports the upcoming redevelopment of CSMIA’s Terminal 1 and aims to optimise passenger traffic across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region's dual-airport system.
Air India Group will launch its transition in December 2026, starting with Air India Express operating four daily domestic flights from NMIA. In January 2027, the airline plans to introduce services to Kuwait and move its Oman operations to the new facility. Subsequent phases will transfer flights to Jeddah, Riyadh, Dammam, Doha, Muscat, and Sharjah, with the full transition targeted for completion by IATA’s Northern Summer 2027 season. Air India Group will maintain operations at both airports, preserving its existing slots at CSMIA.
IndiGo to begin international flights from NMIA in February 2027
Separately, IndiGo, in coordination with Adani Airport Holdings Limited, plans to launch international operations from NMIA in February 2027, extending through July. IndiGo will transfer existing flights to 11 destinations, including Riyadh, Dammam, Jeddah, Kuwait, Muscat, and Jakarta, while adding a new daily route to Kathmandu. To facilitate smooth passenger transfers, select supporting domestic flights will also relocate to NMIA.
Adani Airport Holdings Limited welcomed the planned transitions, noting that distributing flights between CSMIA and NMIA will ease capacity constraints, enhance connectivity, and accommodate growing regional demand.
While individual flight transfer dates remain subject to regulatory approvals, both airlines are coordinating operational arrangements with airport authorities to ensure a seamless transition. The two carriers will follow distinct timelines: Air India Group begins its phased move in December 2026, while IndiGo’s international rollout commences in February 2027.
