Ambernath: The newly inaugurated Ambernath Railway Police Station registered its first mobile phone theft case on Thursday, a day after it officially began operations. The incident involved a 24-year-old commuter whose phone was allegedly stolen while he was trying to board a CSMT-bound local train.

Vaibhav Arjun Mahajan, a resident of Ambernath, reached the station on Thursday morning to catch the 8:27 am CSMT local. As the train coaches stopped farther ahead than usual, Mahajan ran along the platform to board the train. During the rush, an unidentified person allegedly stole his Motorola mobile phone from his trouser pocket.

After noticing that his phone was missing, Mahajan immediately approached the Ambernath Railway Police Station and filed a complaint. Police registered the case and launched an investigation to identify and trace the suspected thief.

Senior Police Inspector Laxman Chavan and his team also inspected and patrolled the station premises following the incident to assess security arrangements. Chavan urged commuters to immediately approach the police in case of any untoward incident.

The new station was established following long-standing demands from residents of Ambernath, Ulhasnagar and Badlapur, who previously had to travel to Kalyan Railway Police Station to lodge complaints.
