Builder extorted Rs 1.35 lakh, man held

Rabale: City police have arrested a 47-year-old habitual offender for allegedly extorting Rs 1.35 lakh from a builder by threatening to lodge complaints against his construction project with civic authorities, CIDCO and MIDC.
The accused, Tribhuvan Lalbihari Singh, allegedly visited builder Jitendra Pratap Singh’s construction site in Sector 8, Airoli, in May 2026 and threatened to get the project demolished and cause financial losses. Police said he also allegedly threatened to assault and kill the builder and implicate his son in a false criminal case while posing as an RTI activist.
Fearing harassment and action against his project, the builder allegedly paid Singh Rs 1.35 lakh through cash and online transfers. However, Singh allegedly continued demanding another Rs 5,000, prompting the builder to approach police.
“Singh threatened the builder with serious consequences and continued making demands,” said Senior Police Inspector Balakrishna Sawant.
Police said, “Singh has several previous cases registered against him, including extortion, assault and intimidation.”
