Navi Mumbai: Under the “Nasha Mukt Navi Mumbai” campaign, city police on September 30 scientifically disposed of 726 kg of seized narcotic substances valued at approximately Rs 26.30 crore.

The drugs, seized in 201 cases registered within the Navi Mumbai Police Commissionerate limits, were destroyed at Mumbai Waste Management Limited in Taloja following prescribed procedures. The consignment included MD, heroin, cocaine, ganja and charas.

The operation was conducted in the presence of senior officers, including Joint Commissioner of Police Deepak Sakore, Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Pramod Shewale and other senior officials.

Police said narcotics worth around Rs 112.40 crore, seized in 192 cases, had already been destroyed under the campaign before Wednesday’s operation.

According to police, 2,387 narcotics-related cases have been registered in Navi Mumbai over the past five years, resulting in the arrest of 3,200 accused. During this period, 1,078 kg of narcotic substances valued at nearly Rs 150 crore were seized.

Police said 101 African nationals were among those arrested, with drugs worth about Rs 40 crore recovered from them. Authorities also reported deporting 2,034 African nationals and blacklisting 989.

Citizens have been urged to share information about drug sale, storage or trafficking through the dedicated helpline 8828-112-112. Police assured that informants’ identities would be kept confidential.
