Kalyan: To ensure immediate assistance is available to people suffering from cardiac arrest or heart-related emergencies, Fortis Hospital, Kalyan, has been conducting CPR training sessions under its ‘Har Ghar Hero’ initiative. The programme, which extends beyond the hospital premises to schools, colleges and public spaces, has trained more than 500 students, teachers, employees and shopkeepers so far.

Practical training sessions were conducted at institutions and public places, including B.K. Birla College, Cambria School and Metro Mall, Kalyan. Participants were trained to identify cardiac arrest situations, perform chest compressions correctly and provide essential first aid support until medical help arrives.

The initiative is being conducted under the guidance of Dr Manjit Singh Arora, Senior General Physician, Fortis Hospital, Mulund. The programme aims to equip citizens without medical backgrounds with the confidence and skills required to respond during emergencies.

Fortis Hospital, Kalyan Facility Director Mohit Wankhede said timely action plays a crucial role during cardiac emergencies. “If CPR is provided at the right time before a patient reaches the hospital, it can make a significant difference. Through ‘Har Ghar Hero’, we aim to help more citizens gain essential life-saving skills and confidence,” he said.

Dr Naresh Chandra, Director of B.K. Birla College, Kalyan, highlighted the importance of practical skills for students beyond academics. He said CPR training helps students acquire abilities that can prove useful in real-life situations.

Further training sessions are planned on October 12 at a pharmacy college, October 16 at Birla College for teachers and students, and October 26 at Lodha School (Phase 2).
