Mumbai: India all-rounder Hardik Pandya’s much-awaited return to competitive cricket has suffered another setback after scans revealed a fresh injury to his right shin, delaying his comeback plans ahead of a busy international schedule.
According to a Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) source, Pandya has been advised complete rest for two weeks following the latest injury setback. The BCCI medical team is expected to reassess his condition after the rest period before deciding the next phase of his rehabilitation.
Pandya was scheduled to make his return on September 20 and was included in the India A squad for the One-Day series against Australia A, beginning October 6. The series was expected to provide the experienced all-rounder with valuable match practice before his possible return to the national side.
However, the latest injury has effectively ruled him out of the upcoming white-ball tour of New Zealand, where the T20I series is scheduled to begin on October 22. Pandya has not played competitive cricket since the final stages of IPL 2026 and has faced several fitness challenges in recent months.
The setback comes at a crucial time for India, which continues to rely heavily on Pandya’s ability to contribute with both bat and ball in limited-overs cricket. His experience and versatility have made him an important part of the team’s white-ball strategy.
After completing his recovery programme, Pandya may look towards domestic cricket or the Zimbabwe series as a pathway for a gradual return to international action.
