Mumbai: Maharashtra Cyber Cell on Friday, October 16, rejected rapper Yo Yo Honey Singh’s request to appear for questioning on October 22 in a case concerning allegedly objectionable remarks made during a concert in Delhi.
The rapper, whose real name is Hirdesh Singh, had been summoned to appear before the investigating agency on Friday. As per an ANI report, he has failed to appear before the cell on three occasions.
The complaint relates to remarks allegedly made during the Delhi concert, a video clip of which circulated widely on social media and attracted criticism. Singh later issued a video apology, claiming the clip had been edited in a manner that made his comments appear offensive.
On October 5, Singh had sought additional time to appear before the investigating officer after missing a scheduled questioning session.
The case comes amid earlier controversy surrounding his music. In April, the Delhi High Court directed the Union government to remove online links to his song ‘Volume 1’, released in 2006 with rapper Badshah. The court reportedly described the song as obscene and derogatory towards women, observing that freedom of expression could not justify such content.
The latest summons concerns the concert remarks, and the allegations remain subject to investigation.
