Air India suspends Saudi flights until October 20

Mumbai: Air India has cancelled all flights to and from Riyadh, Dammam, and Jeddah until October 20, citing the evolving geopolitical situation and safety concerns in the region.

In an official statement released on Friday, October 16, the airline stated that it is closely monitoring security developments to assess when operations can safely resume. Reaffirming that passenger and crew safety remains its top priority, Air India confirmed that all affected travellers are eligible for full refunds. Passengers have been advised to verify their flight status through official channels before travelling to the airport.

The suspensions come amid escalating regional tensions and reported attacks across Saudi Arabia. Residents in Riyadh reported hearing explosions, while Saudi civil defence authorities issued air raid warnings in the capital and Kharj province. Although the exact sources of the latest explosions remain unconfirmed, Riyadh’s airport has faced repeated strikes in recent days, with Iran-backed Houthi rebels in neighbouring Yemen claiming responsibility for several attacks.

As airports, military installations, and oil infrastructure increasingly become targets in the expanding conflict, international carriers are withdrawing aircraft and suspending flights across affected sectors. Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia is seeking additional military assistance from global allies to counter ongoing missile and drone threats.

Air India stated it will continue to evaluate the situation continuously and provide further operational updates as conditions develop.
