Kalyan: Celebrating 43 years of community service, Suresh Mitra Mandal continues to combine religious traditions with cultural activities and social welfare, with women’s empowerment taking centre stage at this year’s festivities.

Rooted in faith, unity and social commitment, the mandal organises annual celebrations featuring bhajans, kirtans, religious rituals, havan and bhandara. Games and entertainment programmes for women and children further strengthen community bonds.

This year, the Navdurga Aarti was a key attraction, highlighting the nine forms of Goddess Durga and conveying a message of women’s strength, courage and achievements.

In a move to promote women’s leadership, Usha Kene has been appointed chairperson of this year’s festival committee. The initiative aims to encourage women’s participation, confidence and decision-making while upholding cultural traditions.

The mandal has also extended its community outreach beyond religious festivities by organising a free physiotherapy initiative through the Dignity Foundation. The programme reflects its commitment to public welfare and access to healthcare.

Other initiatives focus on introducing younger generations to cultural values, encouraging women’s participation, involving youth in social work and bringing together people from different sections of society.

The mandal’s 43-year journey has been supported by office-bearers, volunteers, members, donors, well-wishers and local residents, whose contributions have helped sustain its activities and traditions.

Looking ahead, the organisation aims to preserve its religious and cultural heritage while continuing initiatives focused on social service, community welfare and women’s empowerment.
