Mumbai: Celebrating the rich legacy, culture and contributions of Maharashtra’s eminent personalities, Nrityanjali Performing Arts Academy is set to present Maharashtrachi Gaurav Gatha, a grand 90-minute theatrical dance production showcasing the lives and achievements of 31 celebrated figures from the state.

Directed and scripted by Dr Tushar Guha, the production will be staged on October 4 at 11.30 am at Ravindra Natya Mandir, Prabhadevi, and on October 9 at 7.30 pm at Acharya Pralhad Keshav Atre Rangmandir, Kalyan.

The performance pays tribute to personalities from diverse fields, including philosophy, politics, education, art, culture and social service, whose work shaped Maharashtra’s identity and earned recognition beyond the state. The personalities featured in the production represent a timeline spanning from 1803 to 2022.

“Every society evolves through the efforts, thoughts and actions of individuals who have the courage to bring change. Their convictions, ideas and contributions become the foundation of a community’s progress,” said Dr Tushar Guha, Director of Nrityanjali Performing Arts Academy.

He added, “It is impossible to present the journey of every great personality on one stage, as Maharashtra’s history is filled with countless inspiring figures. However, we have made a sincere effort to showcase 31 such icons and introduce their contributions to audiences.”

The production combines classical and contemporary dance forms with theatre and storytelling, creating a visual narrative that highlights the cultural spirit of Maharashtra. Presented in Marathi, Hindi and partly English, the show aims to connect with audiences across linguistic backgrounds.

Dr Guha said the project involved extensive research over a year, carried out along with Girish Dalvi, Nivedita Damle, Sangita Sawant and Tanmay Sawant. “Our aim was not only to entertain but also to inspire audiences by revisiting the remarkable journeys of those who contributed to Maharashtra’s progress,” he said.

Through music, movement and dramatic storytelling, Maharashtrachi Gaurav Gatha seeks to celebrate the state’s heritage while bringing its forgotten and celebrated chapters closer to the younger generation.
