Belapur: A 17-year-old boy was seriously injured after the car he was driving lost control and plunged from Parsik Hill onto the Belapur-Uran railway tracks near CBD Belapur on September 24. The incident occurred around 3.30 pm and disrupted local train services for nearly two-and-a-half hours.

The teenager, a Turbhe resident, was reportedly driving towards the Vishwanath Maharaj Samadhi Temple when the vehicle crashed down onto the tracks. He became trapped inside the car and was rescued by Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation fire brigade personnel with help from residents. He was later shifted to MGM Hospital for treatment.

Firefighters, railway officials, railway police and RPF personnel carried out a recovery operation to remove the damaged vehicle. The car, which landed between the two tracks, was dragged away, allowing services to resume around 6 pm.

Fire brigade station officer Ramchandra Chaudhary said, “A major accident was narrowly avoided as the vehicle did not fall onto the overhead electric wires. Had it landed on the wires, the current could have caused a fire and damaged railway infrastructure.”

Railway police are probing how the minor obtained the car and why he drove it to Parsik Hill. They are also investigating whether anyone else was accompanying him.
