Thane: The proposed alignment of the Thane Integral Ring Metro Railway Project through Hiranandani Estate and Gladys Alwares Road is unlikely to be changed, though Mahametro may consider relocating some stations following objections from residents.

After a meeting with elected representatives and Mahametro officials, residents approached the agency’s managing director and Thane Municipal Commissioner seeking another discussion and a review of the alignment, citing concerns over increased congestion near residential complexes.

Residents pointed out that the earlier plan avoided the TCS area and followed the coastal stretch, but the revised alignment passes through a road opposite Rodas Enclave. Representatives of Eden Woods also raised concerns about a proposed station near their complex entrance.

Mahametro officials stated that the route was approved by the Thane Municipal Corporation general body in 2018. While station locations can be reconsidered, any change in the metro alignment would require fresh approvals, including environmental clearances.

The 29-km circular metro project, approved by the Union Cabinet in 2024 at an estimated cost of Rs 12,200 crore, is expected to improve connectivity across Thane and integrate with Mumbai Metro Lines 4 and 5. The project is targeted for completion by 2029.
