Thane: Opposition parties in Thane have announced a protest march to the Thane Police Commissionerate on October 9, citing concerns over law and order following the murder of Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Pradeep Purnekar. The decision was announced at a joint press conference attended by leaders from several opposition parties.

Former MP and Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Rajan Vichare, NCP (SP) MLA Jitendra Awhad, MNS leader Avinash Jadhav, along with representatives of the Congress, Aam Aadmi Party, Dharmarajya Paksha and Republican Party of India, participated in the press conference.

The leaders raised concerns over the law-and-order situation in Thane and demanded effective action following Purnekar’s killing. Purnekar was shot dead in Thane on September 29 night. Police have since arrested suspects in connection with the case, while the investigation into the circumstances and motive continues.

Jadhav warned that if the situation does not improve, the opposition could intensify its agitation. He said, “The October 9 march would seek accountability from the police administration and demand stronger measures to ensure citizens’ safety.”

Purnekar’s son Ram Purnekar has also made allegations regarding a possible political conspiracy behind the killing. Those allegations have been denied by former Thane mayor Meenakshi Shinde, who has called for an impartial investigation. The opposition parties have appealed to their workers and citizens to participate in the October 9 protest march.
