Kalyan: The ongoing flyover construction near Chhaya Talkies in Kalyan West by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has intensified traffic congestion in the area, alleged social activist Yogesh Dalvi.

Dalvi claimed that the roads on both sides of the bridge have become pothole-ridden and questioned why road widening was not completed before starting the flyover project. He said the lack of proper planning could worsen congestion in the area and at Subhash Chowk even after the project’s completion.

Dalvi has submitted a written complaint to the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) commissioner, seeking clarification on whether a detailed study of traffic movement and future requirements was conducted before approving the project.

He alleged that temporary road repairs have not been carried out despite the deteriorating condition of the roads. He demanded that responsibility for road maintenance be fixed and urgent resurfacing work be undertaken.

Dalvi also raised concerns over drainage works and protective walls constructed along the Subhash Chowk to Station Road route. He questioned whether the limits for road widening had been finalised before the construction of these structures.

He further sought information regarding the installation of high-tension electricity poles by MSEDCL and asked whether the civic body had initiated official communication with railway authorities if railway land was affected during road widening.

Demanding a detailed inquiry by a special investigation team, Dalvi called for a written explanation from civic authorities on the flyover project, road widening, drainage, protective walls and electricity infrastructure. He said thousands of daily commuters were facing inconvenience due to traffic disruptions.
