Ulhasnagar: Ulhasnagar police have arrested three habitual offenders for allegedly targeting locked houses during the Ganeshotsav festival and solving five burglary cases. Property worth ₹3.88 lakh, including foreign currency, was recovered from the accused.

According to police, the accused identified closed houses where residents had gone out during the festive period and allegedly carried out burglaries at night. Following a rise in such incidents, a crime detection team began investigations under the guidance of senior officials.

The team, led by Senior Police Inspector Santosh Awhad, with support from Deputy Commissioner of Police Sachin Gore and Assistant Commissioner of Police Shankar Awtade, analysed CCTV footage from crime spots, conducted technical investigations and gathered information from police informers.

The police subsequently arrested Khandya Jadhav, Mashak Mulla and Lado alias Karim Bagwan. During questioning, the accused allegedly confessed to their involvement in five burglary cases.

Police recovered stolen valuables worth ₹3.88 lakh from their possession, including foreign currency such as US dollars and UAE dirhams.

The accused were produced before a court, which remanded them to police custody. Further investigation is underway to ascertain whether they were involved in other burglary cases in Ulhasnagar and surrounding areas.
